The Premise
In the near future, genetic reprogramming is no longer confined to medicine. A covert state programme has developed a way to alter the impulses behind repeated criminality, aggression and reckless behaviour. To its architects, it is humane, precise and necessary. To everyone else, it is almost entirely invisible.
The Man Inside the System
Adam Kessler helped build the programme that decides who gets fixed. His wife, Victoria, believes in second chances. Adam doesn’t do seconds. Elder daughter Wren is drawn to exactly the kind of men he’d correct first. Fifteen-year-old Heidi hangs on his every word. One is learning to see through him; the other, to think like him.
What none of them know is that Adam has already begun selecting who deserves to be corrected, beyond the rules he helped write, and starting close to home.

Britain is being reshaped by surveillance, political anger and a new appetite for certainty. The public is promised safer streets and fewer repeat offenders. Behind that promise sits a machinery of control whose reach grows faster than anyone admits.

Repeat offending falls, the streets feel safer, and almost nobody asks how. It follows the people who built the system, the people marked by it, and the strangers who suddenly find themselves confessing things they never meant to say. Then the system’s logic begins turning inward, and the man who corrects others discovers he’s the one who can’t stop.
